Playing Five Card Draw Poker

One of the easier poker games to learn is Five Card Draw. It’s pretty easy to learn and you’ll be up and playing in no time however, to be great at any poker game you’ll need plenty of practice and experience.

When playing Five Card Draw poker you first need to ante in a bet which typically isn’t a lot of money. Now the dealer passes one card at a time to each player in a clockwise direction. Each card dealt will be face down until all players have at least 5 cards.

Bets can now begin with the player to the dealer’s left who raises first. The first player now has the opportunity to bet but is not required to bet if they feel their hand is not very good. So, the person to this player’s left now has the opportunity to bet until they get to the dealer. If no player bets, then the game is cancelled and new hands are dealt.

Once proper bets have been placed the game of playing Five Card Draw poker truly begins. As bets go around the table, a player can either call the bet, raise or fold. This occurs during the first round of betting. After this first round the players can draw new cards from the deck whilst discarding up to 3 cards to be replaced.

After each player has had their opportunity to replace cards with new ones, as well as placed their bets (or folded) then each player will reveal their cards with the highest hand winning the pot.
