7 Card Stud is the classic game of poker that dates back to the wild west days. Although Texas Holdem has now taken over as the more popular poker game, 7 Card Stud is still played in many casinos around the world. A relatively difficult game compared to the newer ones, it can be played both hi and low.
When learning how to play 7 Card Stud you must know that high 7 Card Stud refers to the player with the highest hand wins the pot whilst if it’s a hi-lo game then the winner with the highest hand splits the winnings with the person who has the lowest hand.
Up to eight players can enter the game and each player must first ante in to begin. The amount of ante is dependent on what it was set as before the game began. Each player gets 2 pocket cards facing down and one facing up. If a player has the lowest face up card then he must throw in a small bet to continue. Betting then continues around the table to each player with the option to raise, call or fold.
After one round of betting has gone around the table, a fourth card is dealt to each player also facing up. This time the player with the highest card puts in a bet and once again the betting goes round the table in a clockwise manner until everyone has had a chance to bet and/or call or fold. A fifth card is then dealt and the highest card bets starting the process once again until the seventh card has been dealt.
The end result is the winner who can display the best hand with five of the seven cards dealt to them wins the pot, unless it’s a game of hi-lo where both high and low hand share the winnings.
